About 2.2 million
lightyears distant,
and the core is still
visible to the naked
eye! -- that's M31,
one of our nearest
neighbor galaxies
in the constellation
Andromeda. The
angle subtended by
M31 is almost 3
degrees, about the
size  of  six   full
moons that are put
end-to-end. M31
has several small
satellite galaxies,
including  M32,
located to the left
of the core, and
NGC205, located
at the bottom right
of this image.
